Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations Engineer with a strong background in cloud infrastructure management to play a critical role in ensuring the continuous operation, monitoring, and high availability of our health information exchange platform. As an Operations Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to maintain the reliability and performance of our data services, contributing to the success of our national platform. 

Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure Management: 

  • Manage and optimize the performance and availability of our cloud infrastructure components. 
  • Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and implement proactive solutions to maintain uptime. 

 

Service Monitoring and Availability: 

  • Implement and maintain robust monitoring solutions tailored to cloud environments to ensure service availability and performance. 
  • Continuously monitor key metrics, analyze trends, and proactively address potential issues. 

 

Incident Management and Response: 

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to and resolve incidents promptly, minimizing downtime and service disruption. 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures. 

 

Infrastructure Maintenance: 

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, upgrades, and patches on cloud resources while minimizing impact on services. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth operations and timely updates. 

 

Scalability and Capacity Planning: 

  • Collaborate with DevOps and Engineering teams to plan and execute the scaling of cloud resources based on usage patterns and growth projections. 
  • Conduct capacity planning to ensure the platform can handle increased workloads and user demand. 

 

Automation and Scripting: 

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts tailored to cloud environments for operational tasks, configuration management, and monitoring. 
  • Enhance deployment and orchestration processes to streamline operations. 

 

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: 

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and best practices specific to cloud infrastructure. 
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing by conducting training sessions and sharing insights with team members. 

 

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and other teams to understand application requirements and provide operational support. 
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on operational goals and priorities. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 
  • Proven experience in operations and monitoring of cloud infrastructure. 
  • Strong understanding of monitoring tools and techniques tailored to cloud environments, including application-level monitoring. 
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell. 
  • Familiarity with incident management and root cause analysis methodologies. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator) are a plus.
